We are a not-for-profit organization that provides horseback riding programs for mentally and physically challenged children, special needs children and adults,as well as abused or at-risk children in Southwest Florida.
We are also an animal rescue center for exotic types of animals. If you know of any class 3 exotic species that need a good home with plenty of TLC please let us know! Showtime Riding Academy and Rescue offers equine facilitated horsemanship and equine facilitated learning with the help of certified instructors and trained volunteers. Using specially designed interactive experiences that promote emotional healing, build confidence, improve social skills, and help children makepositive changes in their lives. Our farm environment provides a unique setting enabling children to address physical and mental issues on different levels that they might not ordinarily experience at home, a doctor’s office, or school. We assess each child’s needs and then develop an individualized program. We evaluate progress toward goals on an ongoing basis. These goals may be emotional, behavioral, social, mental, or spiritual in nature.
Helping handicapped children get acquainted with horses is a great way to stimulate their senses and give them something to look forward to. The bond that they form with the horse can lead to increased socialization in other areas of their life. Horseback riding is a positive reinforcement that works very well with handicapped children because each individual can accomplish something he/she has never been able to do before, giving them a feeling of self esteem and an importance that they may have never felt before. Horseback riding also has physical benefits, one hour of horseback riding will virtually work every muscle in your body. The strengthening of these muscles not only positively affects the individual’s posture, but respiration and speech will also improve.
Showtime Riding Academy and Rescue does not receive funding from the state. Our non-for-profit organization is supported primarily with gifts from generous friends like you! We have many options available for you to be involved with, from donating funds, supplies, or even volunteering your time!
